The following additional information is provided regarding the mishaps that have taken place during the Kareri Lake trek:
In May 2021, two hikers from Tamil Nadu passed away from hypothermia while hiking close to the Kareri Lake. They had just finished setting up their tent on the shore of the lake and gone for a nighttime stroll when they were caught in an unexpected snowstorm. The search and rescue team discovered their bodies the following morning. The incident took place because there was a lack of appropriate equipment as well as a lack of experience in coping with severe weather conditions.
During the month of May 2018, a trekker from Maharashtra who was 25 years old fell off a cliff close to Kareri Lake and sustained serious injuries. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Dharamshala so that he could receive treatment. The accident was brought on by carelessness and by ignoring the directions given in the guide.
In July 2017, a group of hikers became disoriented and became stranded close to Kareri Lake. During that time, they did not have access to food or water. They were saved in the end by the authorities in their community. The incident took place because the trekkers were not following the proper trail and did not have proper guidance.
These incidents highlight how important it is to properly plan, prepare, and trek while adhering to the instructions of the guide. It is absolutely necessary to be well-equipped with the appropriate gear, to carry adequate supplies of food and water, and to be aware of the weather conditions. Hiking in a group and employing the services of a knowledgeable guide are two additional ways to significantly cut down on the risk of being injured while hiking.
