SHILT HUT TREK

2 Nights 3 Days

Starting in the beautiful Tirthan Valley, the Gushaini to Shilt Hut Trek is an exciting 4-day trip through the beautiful scenery of the Great Himalayan National Park. This easy walk is best in April, June, October, or November, and it goes up to an elevation of over 3000 metres. The first stop on your trip is Gushaini, which is famous for its trout fishing and traditional Himalayan buildings. As you walk through the low-altitude tropical woods, you’ll see small streams, waterfalls, and the GHNP’s unique species that are only found in the Western Himalayas. Before you start the steep climb to the beautiful Shilt Hut, you can get to the Himalayan desert from the Rolla base camp.

Day 1: Gushaini to Rolla

Day 2: Rolla to Shilt Hut

Day 3: Shilt Hut to Gushaini

Day 1: Gushaini to Rolla

  • 4 km drive to road head in Gushaini
  • 10 km trek to GHNP Entry Gate, Rolla (2100 m): 5 hours
  • Pass through Ropa and Kauncha villages along the Tirthan River

Day 2: Rolla to Shilt Hut

  • 5 km trek to Shilt Hut (3100 m): 4 hours
  • A bit of a steep climb through dense forest, spotting rare birds
  • Dinner by bonfire with stars above

Day 3: Shilt Hut to Gushaini

  • 15 km trek to Gushaini, 6 hours
  • Descend from Shilt Hut to Rolla and then to Gushaini
  • End of trek

Keep an eye out for the beautiful Western Tragopan and Monal as you travel. They are just two of the many beautiful bird species that live in this area. When you get to Shilt, you’ll be greeted by a huge field that looks like a natural mat and is surrounded by hills that are up to 5,000 meters high. Here is the best place to enjoy the breathtaking views of the glaciers and mountain ranges all around you. If you like nature and have extra time, you might want to continue your walk to the beautiful Rakhundi Top. There, you might see Goral, Himalayan Tahr, Blue Sheep, or even the hard-to-find Black and Brown Bears. This extra walk will give you a better experience of the park’s wildness and a chance to see its many kinds of wildlife. The Shilt Hut Trek is one of the GHNP’s easiest and shortest hikes, and it gives you a real sense of the park’s wild beauty. If you’ve been hiking before or are just a nature lover looking for a unique adventure, this walk will leave you in awe of the Himalayas’ raw power and beauty.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation due to Natural Disasters or Unforeseen Circumstances:

Suppose a trek is cancelled at the last minute due to a natural disaster or unforeseeable circumstances (such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, attacks, or bandh). In that case, Trekking Cougars will issue a Trek voucher for the full amount. The voucher can be used for the same or a different trek over the next year.

Client Cancellations:

  • Cancellations made within 30 days of the trek’s start date will receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations made between 30 and 20 days before the trek will receive a 50% refund.
  • There will be no refund for cancellations made less than 20 days before the trek begins.

Please note that all refunds are subject to a 4% cancellation charge to cover processing fees. Additionally, trek insurance is non-refundable.

Trekking Cougars assumes no responsibility for any damage or injury to your clothing, equipment, or other belongings while on the trek. The trek fee covers all expenses associated with the trek, from start to finish, as outlined in the specific trek itinerary.
